Hamburg Airport to City: S-Bahn, Bus, and Hotel Transfers
Hamburg Airport is about 10 km north of the city centre in Fuhlsbüttel, which makes the trip into town one of the shorter airport transfers in Germany. S1 is the default for almost everyone.
S-Bahn: S1
The station Hamburg Airport (Flughafen) is reached from Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 arrivals by lifts, escalators and stairs. Hamburg Airport lists S1 to and from Hamburg Hauptbahnhof about every 10 minutes, with a journey of about 25 minutes. At Ohlsdorf, the next stop, you can change to U1.
Tickets are sold through HVV, Hamburg’s transport authority. Check current fares and which ticket covers the airport on hvv.de before you travel; prices change. Validate if the ticket type requires it, and check the destination display. Trains toward the city call at Hauptbahnhof.
Buses
Bus stops are in front of Terminal 1 on arrival level 0. Published lines include 274 toward Ohlsdorf, 292 toward Langenhorn, Ochsenzoll, Lattenkamp and Hagenbecks Tierpark, and X95 toward Schnelsen, Pinneberg and Elmshorn. Night bus 606 is listed toward Langenhorn and, on another routing, toward Rathausmarkt, Hauptbahnhof/ZOB and U Alsterdorf. Use an HVV journey planner for the stop that matches your hotel.
Taxis and ride-hailing
Taxi ranks are outside Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 on the arrivals level. The airport lists cash and card payment, and names Hansa-Taxi, Taxiruf-Hamburg, Taxi Hamburg and FreeNow as options. A ride to the centre typically takes 20 to 30 minutes in light traffic. Fares are metered; confirm the running total on the meter. MOIA is listed as an app-based shuttle alternative.
