Hamburg Airport Day Rooms and Layover Guide
A long daytime layover at Hamburg Airport is manageable, but it is not set up like Munich. There are no Napcabs, and none of the four hotels around HAM publish a day-use or hourly room on their official sites. Plan on a lounge shower, a few hours in the Plaza, or a full overnight booking if you actually need a bed.
Day rooms: what is not advertised
Radisson Blu Hotel, Hamburg Airport is a four-minute walk across the footbridge, which still makes it the easiest place to rest between flights if you book a normal stay. Courtyard by Marriott Hamburg Airport is about 10 minutes on foot, or a short on-request shuttle until 23:00. Motel One Hamburg Airport and B&B Hotel Hamburg-Airport are a walk or a city bus along Alsterkrugchaussee; neither hotel runs a shuttle. If a hotel is willing to sell a short stay, that will be a reception conversation, not a product on the website. Do not count on it for a tight connection.
Showers, luggage and the Plaza
Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 share the Airport Plaza. Paid showers are listed in the Airport Lounge on Plaza level 3, airside. Airline lounges may also have showers for eligible passengers. Landside, e-Shuttle baggage storage is on the Terminal 2 departure level, with published hours of 06:00 to 21:00. Store bags before you go into the city; do not assume lockers exist elsewhere in the building.
What to do by layover length
With up to four hours, stay in the Plaza: eat, use a lounge shower if you have access, and do not leave the security area if you are connecting. Between four and eight hours, a hotel overnight that overlaps your layover is the comfortable option, especially at the Radisson Blu. With eight hours or more, central Hamburg is realistic: S1 takes about 25 minutes to Hauptbahnhof, so even allowing for security on the way back you get several hours in the city. See the transfer guide for tickets and taxis.
If your layover runs through the small hours, read sleeping in Hamburg Airport before you decide to stay in the terminal. The building is a poor overnight.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I book a hotel room for the day at Hamburg Airport?
None of the four hotels next to Hamburg Airport publish a day-use or hourly product on their official sites. For a shower and a bed, book a regular overnight stay, or ask the hotel directly whether a short stay is possible on the day.
How long a layover do I need to leave Hamburg Airport and visit the city?
S1 takes about 25 minutes each way to Hamburg Hauptbahnhof, plus time for tickets, walking and security on the way back. With less than about six hours between flights, staying at the airport is safer. With eight hours or more you can see the centre comfortably.
Where can I shower at Hamburg Airport without a hotel?
Showers are listed in the Airport Lounge on the third level of the Airport Plaza, airside, for passengers with lounge access or a paid walk-up when it is sold. That is not a substitute for a hotel room.
